Advanced Topics in Deep Learning

Spring 2020:

  • Course cover most recent and successful advances in the field of deep learning in a broad range of subfields. I learned much more in this course than any other course that I took in my program.
  • Very interesting course covering a wide variety of topics and cutting edge research.
  • The instructor is very interested in my term project. We generally made more than one-time video calls out of course time. (eg. regular brainstorming sections for my project) She is very supportive and takes care of the students. She spends enough time with them. Also, I can easily reach her if I need her. I can get a valuable answer and support from her. All that I mentioned improve me in terms of scientific perspective.

Spring 2021:

  • The lecturer’s perspective is very research-oriented, I like to see this. Also thanks her for being understanding about students’ own schedule and open to students’ feedback.
  • This is a very special and great lecture. I feel blessed to have been able to take it.
  • It offers subjects from a variety of topics. Its content is very up-to-date and every work we have reviewed was good quality. I loved that we were encouraged to look at those works from a novelty perspective. The lecturer has up-to-date knowledge on deep learning.
  • Lots of state of the art paper reading, both very recent ones and very impactful ones. Studying a paper results in greater comprehension so that’s a great plus. Class project results in implementing studied papers so it’s also good to have.

  • This was the first semester of my master degree and also first semester in BOUN. To be honest, it was the course that met my expectations the most.
  • It is good to learn how to read papers, implementing some of the ideas on them and improving them. Also, it is a good course to enhance your knowledge and make practice in the area.
  • The given asssignments were very helpful to understand the basis of the current state of art technologies. Also the selected papers for the presentations were well. Although I have not interested in GANs or Transformers, I really comprehend and like this topics.
  • It is project based and our professor helped us a lot.
  • It is a hands-on course so I could improve my practical experiences.
