I finally started to use Pardus on my notebook (triple with Debian, and Solaris).
In fact after a long time with Debian and GNOME; it’s a bit hard to become familiar with KDE and it’s components. So if i’m glad with Debian and GNOME, why did i fork myself to Pardus?
First of all, Pardus is one of the biggest software (and of course the biggest free software) project in Turkey. It had to be supported by all Turkish free software developers; as well as it’s being supported by voluenteers from Netherland and Germany. And besides, reporting bugs in your own language make things quite easy (in fact i’m a very very hairsplitting person about usability of a program; for example in Debian; i normally find 2-3 bugs everyday. but it became quite tiresome to translate it all to English, than reporting, than explaining about the details bla bla..).
I’m using Pardus for 1-2 weeks but i’m very glad about it’s features. As being known as a Debian lady, i get suprised when Pardus is detecting my bluetooth devices, battery % of my notebook, wireless card, etc.. automatically; which i had to spend many hours to hack and use these features under Debian. Hmm.. and being a veery long GNOME user, err, i’m trying to use and become familiar with KDE :)
It also has a nice AIGLX and Beryl feature, but still needs to be stable if we compare it with Debian’s (i’m not going to compare Pardus with Debian; but that’s what i’m using in many years).
So what is Pardus? And what it is offering?
Probably the most important feature of Pardus is the new package system: PiSi (Packages Installed Successfully as Intended).
On the other hand, COMAR (COnfiguration MAnageR) helps you to configure installed software easely.
Third, YALI (Yet Another Linux İnstaller) is the easiest installer i’ve ever seen.
There’s much than these words for Pardus, just check its site.
Yeah, a screenshot from Pardus:
